Reviewing Indian Parents of 21st century

Indian culture is famous world wide. The big and joint families are the most beautiful and amazing of this culture. But this ain’t about families. This rant is on the parents. Lots of elder people are coming up and quote this more often, that “Today the country is changing. Parents are accepting new career choices for their wards.” This is such a sweet thing to listen, but is this true?? Every parent wants their kid to be either an engineer or a doctor or a charted accountant. And we can see effects of this everyday. Twelve lakh students are enrolling every year for the engineering entrance exam, and a similar scenario can be seen in the other two branches. After looking at the competition, it’s not too wrong to quote, that each and every student who is appearing for these entrance exams are facing stress and depression at least once. All the unwilling candidates just show up, because of their parents expectations. Here, I don’t say that expecting good results is an issue, but forcing a fish to climb a tree is not so wise. Every one have some talents in them, but each and every parent wants their kids to be an engineer. Frankly speaking, Engineering is the best stream for all the thinkers, but not for those who are forced to think. This force is directly or indirectly being applied by the parents. Also if you see, parents nowadays are sending their wards to engineering entrance tuitions from class 4 or 5. What is this going on? How are we deciding the future of an individual at so early age? Because of such parental and peer pressure, the kid, even if he/she is interested in something else, he/she have to leave that interest, and study for the sake of their parents. Also the peer comparison, frequently done by parents, ruthlessly, is very disheartening for any kid. Eventually what happens, is that kid leave his/her practice of interest and start studying like a donkey. Make good percentage, and make the parents feel proud. But what happens actually is, the kid screw up in his or her interest field and be a mediocre or average in studies. Excellence is taken right away, at the initial stage of life. And the individual grows up looking up at the glories of the successful people. All of these just churns up the minds. And successfully producing a depressed and anxiety full era. So, the quote we started with, seems to be not so true. Rather the situations are going worse. This is a plea for all the parents, to not to decide the future of their wards, without their regards. Keeping the kids more social, and letting them explore more and more will surely help them out.
